Tammy Abraham isn't Shit
I don’t know what it is about Tammy Abraham - but it seems as though he’s definitely out of sorts at Chelsea at the moment.
Actually basically ever since he started performing at Chelsea, he was instantly getting marginalized.
There’s probably a few different reasons to this:
Chelsea have a wealth of attacking options
Chelsea are always looking to add more attackers (even though point one still exists)
Chelsea rotate through managers like crazy
Also, looking at that article, I think it’s a bit stiff that they’re calling Abraham a little soft. I think he’s a hard worker, and is constantly running his guts out.
Although, he did crack a mini tantrum after trying to steal a penalty from Jorginho earlier this season which made me roll my eyes.
To me it sounds like a convenient “leak” that wants to isolate the player.
Anyway, all this Abraham-hate aside, his numbers are actually really good.
Tammy Abraham - By The Numbers
Let’s check out Abraham’s numbers against the other forwards in the top five European leagues over the past year.
Those basic numbers are really good!
0.56 non-penalty goals per 90 minutes is brilliant.
If you can get over a goal every two games from your main striker - you’re looking good. Even more so if that’s non penalty.
When you break his shooting numbers down a little more - you still see a lot more green.
Basically, Tammy Abraham’s goal scoring and shooting numbers are pretty bloody good all things considering.
It’s not just his goal scoring either - Abraham does a fair bit of work defensively too.
These numbers would especially be from Lampard’s first season where Chelsea pressed a lot.
Again…. They’re good numbers!
One thing Abraham doesn’t do well when looking at numbers (and just the eye test) is contribute in the buildup.
For a striker, Abraham’s passing numbers are well below average.
It isn’t all roses though - Tammy Abraham definitely hasn’t built on his successful 2019/20 season. In fact, I’d say that he’s taken a bit of a step back.
While his shooting numbers have kinda stayed strong (just off a much smaller sample), SmarterScout sees Abraham as having a much less productive 2020/21 season.
SmarterScout combines a bunch of data and gives players a 0-99 FIFA-style score for certain aspects of the game.
They see Abraham having a huge drop in attacking output, using the Premier League as a benchmark.
You can put this down to a lack of opportunity, the fact he’s playing more minutes off the bench, or a lack of form… It’s probably a combination of all three.
What’s Next for Tammy Abraham?
When Chelsea first announced the Timo Werner signing, I actually thought the plan would be to pair him with Abraham - After all, Timo looked his best when he was with a big striker like Yussuf Poulsen.
How wrong I was….
It definitely looks like Abraham is on the move ASAP from this mess of a Chelsea situation. And I think that’s the best for him.
Like we’ve looked at - he’s proven that he can play at a high level in the Premier League. Abraham has just been lost in the shuffle because Chelsea want to win a press conference by signing the next big dick striker.
I think a fresh start will do wonders for him.
Tammy Abraham isn’t shit.
